Partners In Education: Better Schools. Better Teachers. Better Haiti.

History

-2007 to 2009-

Partners in Education (PIE) was born. In its early years, Partners in Education was called Lime-Aid, after Founder, Bruce Horwitz’s sound studio, Lime-Studios.  Bruce had recently adopted children from Haiti and wanted to give back to the people who helped him on his journey. The fundraising initiative was to raise enough money to support a small school and orphanage in Haiti, A New Arrival (ANA). Under the banner of Lime-Aid, PIE conducted several fundraising events and in these early years PIE (Lime-Aid) raised over $100,000 for ANA.

-2010-

January 12th, 2010 an earthquake strikes Haiti, demolishing an already crippled nation. The number of orphans went from about 400,000 out of about 10,000,000 total populations to incalculable numbers. And in response to this catastrophic event PIE, still operating as Lime-Aid, shifts from a fundraising initiative to a relief organization. Board members Rob Kramer and Barbara Einstein become supporters of Bruce’s cause and together they form a relief strategy called Ten Things for Haiti. Large shipping bins were placed at schools and businesses. The idea was to fill the bins with the ten most needed items and send them to ANA. The effort worked and tons of food, sanitation and hygiene products were sent to Haiti.

-2011-

This year PIE has accomplished a lot organizationally speaking. With the help of fundraisers and Bruce’s personal donations PIE has continued to fund ANA. Program Coordinators, Everest Mueller and Edwige Vilburn, are added to the team after receiving their master’s degrees in development management. The two helped Bruce and his supporters establish a long-term development plan. They continue to work to transform PIE from a relief organization to an enduring development organization that fights poverty and social injustice through education. New board members Sara Lein, Kelly Horwitz and others are added. Lime-Aid officially changes its name to Partners in Education, the website was launched and the projects underway.
